Users can now swipe left anywhere within a conversation thread to instantly reveal precise message timestamps and the security status provided by RCS end-to-end encryption. Meanwhile, the action of swiping right directly on a specific message bubble initiates a quick reply, streamlining conversation flow without requiring users to tap through additional menus.

The overall context menu experience has also undergone a major visual and functional overhaul. When long-pressing on a message or image, the traditional top toolbar has been replaced by a modern floating menu that appears against a blurred conversation background. This redesigned interface introduces granular text selection capabilities, allowing users to highlight and copy just a specific portion of a chat rather than being forced to copy the entire message body.

To help users stay informed about these frequent changes, Google has introduced an official chat channel dedicated entirely to feature updates and platform announcements. This built-in notification stream showcases newly launched tools directly within the application, keeping users informed of platform advancements without requiring them to check external release notes.

Cross-platform communication has also received a notable boost following platform updates that enhance the dynamic between Android and iOS users. Conversations bridging Android and iPhone devices over RCS now natively support inline quoted replies, ensuring that threaded context is preserved across operating systems. Additionally, photo reactions now display the actual emoji selected by the sender rather than falling back on a basic text description, bridging a long-standing gap in cross-ecosystem parity.

Productivity features are increasingly finding a home within the messaging environment, highlighted by the wide release of Google Keep integration. This feature allows users to quickly generate, access, and share notes directly inside active chat threads. When contextual suggestions do not automatically prompt a list creation, users can access the functionality through the primary attachment menu via a dedicated Keep Notes tile. Selecting a note opens a slide-up panel containing existing lists and creation tools, and once a note is shared, a live preview is displayed directly in the conversation thread.

Finally, aesthetic customization has reached a new tier with the introduction of comprehensive chat themes. Replacing older color-selection options, the new Chat theme settings are accessible via the standard overflow menu, often highlighted by a red badge upon arrival. The customization suite is divided into two primary categories: color options and wallpapers. The color carousel offers nine distinct choices, including a Dynamic Color option that automatically adapts to the visual tones of the active chat background. Meanwhile, the wallpapers section allows users to upload custom images or choose from curated collections spanning animals, architecture, black-and-white photography, cityscapes, landscapes, macro photography, space, sunsets, and rich textures, ensuring that users can tailor their chat environments to personal preferences.
