At the center of this update is the physical combination of the user’s main chat interface with the dedicated personal agent formerly known as Spark. Rather than requiring users to navigate through separate menus or distinct partitions of the application, the newly redesigned app places quick-access buttons for "Chat" and "Task" directly above the standard text prompt box. This placement allows users to instantly pivot between standard conversational AI assistance and initiating autonomous agent tasks with a single tap.

Under the new layout, the feature previously recognized as Gemini Spark has been streamlined into the "Task" designation. Google explains that this creates a dedicated new home for Spark, allowing individuals to start new tasks anytime and easily keep track of them directly within their active chat streams. Consequently, the independent "Spark" shortcut has been completely removed from the application’s navigation drawer, shifting the organizational paradigm toward a more integrated hub approach.

To accommodate these changes, Google is also introducing a completely new "Scheduled" page within the app. This dedicated section surfaces ongoing Spark tasks and various scheduled automated actions, offering users a comprehensive overview of their background processes. The feed within this new page is neatly organized into distinct categories including Active, Paused, Completed, and Suggested, giving users granular control over what the personal agent is managing on their behalf.

Further reinforcing this unification, the historical list of past interactions situated at the bottom of the navigation drawer is undergoing a notable identity shift. No longer labeled as simply "Recents," the history section now combines all traditional chats and Spark tasks into a single, unified chronological history. To help users navigate this combined list, Google has introduced a new filter icon that enables sorting by categories such as All, Ready, Needs attention, and In progress, making it far easier to track complex, multi-step agent workflows alongside casual conversational threads.

Beyond structural shifts in navigation and history, the tech giant appears to be purposefully deemphasizing the standalone "Spark" branding across the entire software interface. A prime indicator of this strategic pivot is the renaming of options within the account settings menu. What was previously designated as "Gemini Spark Settings" has now been simplified to just "Task settings," signaling that Google views the agent functionality less as a distinct sub-brand and more as an intrinsic capability of the overall Gemini platform.

As is typical for major software overhauls of this scale, the refreshed interface is currently rolling out via a phased server-side update specifically targeting Android devices. At the time of this rollout, users accessing Gemini on iOS or through the web interface are not yet seeing the updated navigation drawer or the prompt-level "Chat" and "Task" toggles, though wider availability is widely anticipated as the server-side deployment progresses. It is also worth noting that accessing the advanced capabilities of Gemini Spark continues to require an active AI Pro or AI Ultra subscription, reserving the continuous 24/7 personal agent features for paying power users.

First announced during the Google I/O 2026 keynote events earlier this year, Gemini’s round-the-clock personal agent was designed to handle complex, long-running digital tasks autonomously. By merging these capabilities directly into the main conversational interface, Google is addressing early feedback regarding accessibility. The update effectively removes the friction of a siloed experience, allowing users to spin up automated tasks with significantly fewer steps and monitor their progression seamlessly alongside everyday AI chats.
