Tall Story Games, the independent studio behind the concept, has officially launched its latest title, Heir of the Dog, on the Apple App Store. Priced as a premium release at $14.99, the game invites mobile players into a darkly comedic, fully voiced point-and-click adventure set against the backdrop of Victorian London, drawing heavy thematic inspiration from Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic novella Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.

The project has an unusual origin story, having originally been conceived as a brief prototype. Tall Story Games initially developed a shorter version titled Hair of the Dog within a strict two-week window for a game jam competition. After offering that initial iteration to players for free, the studio was met with a surprisingly enthusiastic response, pulling in tens of thousands of downloads and building a passionate community. Encouraged by the reception, the developers decided to expand the concept into a full-scale commercial adventure, tweaking the title by a single letter to create Heir of the Dog.

The narrative centers on the misadventures of Cummerbund Bandersnatch, an upper-class twit whose curiosity ultimately gets the better of him. After discovering his uncle’s private journal and spotting a mysterious formula that promises a thoroughly good time, Cummerbund decides it is safe to ingest. Predictably, it is anything but safe. The concoction transforms him into a monstrous entity, setting off a bizarre chain of events wherein London’s canine population begins mysteriously disappearing. Left with a peculiar mess to clear up, Cummerbund must navigate the fog-shrouded streets of the British capital to sort out the disaster he has inadvertently caused.

To elevate the standard point-and-click formula, Tall Story Games has implemented a clever day-and-night gameplay mechanic. Once darkness falls, Cummerbund shifts into his non-human form, fundamentally altering how the world operates. Locations, non-player characters, available commands, and environmental puzzles all change depending on the time of day. As the story progresses, players even gain the opportunity to experience Victorian London quite literally through a dog’s eyes and nose. The developers hope this dynamic shifting of puzzles and perspectives will prevent the adventure from devolving into the traditional, frustrating pixel-hunting exercise that sometimes plagues the genre, where players wander aimlessly searching for a single missed item.

In building the atmosphere and comedic timing of the game, Tall Story Games has explicitly cited legendary British comedy influences such as Blackadder and Monty Python. Matching such towering comedic standards is a formidable task, but the studio has assembled a notable voice cast to bring the colorful inhabitants of Victorian London to life. The ensemble features recognizable voice talent including Sally Beaumont, Shaun Mendum—known for his work in Baldur’s Gate 3—Alasdair Beckett-King, and Savy Des-Etages. Together, they voice a diverse array of characters ranging from talking lice and gritty street urchins to the lofty elite of Victorian high society.

At launch, Heir of the Dog features full English voice acting, accompanied by localized text support in English, German, French, Spanish, and Italian. While the game is now readily available for iPhone and iPad users via the App Store, the studio has not yet announced any concrete plans or release windows for an Android version. For mobile gamers who appreciate classic adventure mechanics infused with literary parody, dark humor, and canine mysteries, the title adds a distinctly British flair to the iOS gaming landscape.
