Publisher My.Games has announced that its long-running sci-fi shooter, War Robots, has officially surpassed $50 million in lifetime gross revenue on Steam. The milestone arrives more than eight years after the free-to-play multiplayer title first made the leap to Valve’s digital storefront, marking a significant achievement for a game that originally began its life exclusively as a mobile experience.

While the franchise as a whole has reached staggering financial heights across the global gaming market, this latest financial threshold underscores the enduring appeal and long-term viability of bringing mobile-first action titles to personal computer users. The transition, which required deliberate adaptation for a platform traditionally dominated by native PC development, has gradually turned War Robots into a true cross-platform ecosystem.

The journey of War Robots into the broader gaming landscape began more than 12 years ago when the title was initially introduced to mobile devices. At a time when mobile gaming was evolving rapidly, the title captured the attention of players worldwide with its tactical multiplayer combat featuring customizable giant mechanized robots. For several years, the game expanded its audience primarily on iOS and Android platforms, building a massive and dedicated community of digital pilots engaged in intense futuristic skirmishes.

Seeking to expand its reach to a broader audience of desktop gamers, the development team eventually brought the experience to PC through Steam in April 2018. Over the subsequent eight years, the Steam edition steadily cultivated its own dedicated player base while evolving alongside the broader franchise. Today, the Steam version alone has accumulated more than 3.1 million registered users. Furthermore, according to metrics provided by My.Games, the game continues to maintain strong daily engagement, with peak daily active users reaching approximately 24,000 players on the platform.

Cross-Platform Expansion and Ecosystem Growth

The achievement on Steam represents a critical chapter in the evolution of War Robots into a fully multi-platform franchise. Over the years, the intellectual property has expanded beyond mobile and PC to include console platforms, uniting players from diverse hardware backgrounds into a single, cohesive matchmaking pool. This unified approach allows desktop, mobile, and console users to compete alongside and against one another, ensuring robust player liquidity and active servers regardless of the device being used.

Boris Burangulov, executive producer of War Robots, reflected on the significance of reaching the $50 million revenue threshold on Steam, noting that the milestone is particularly impressive given the game’s mobile-first origins. Burangulov pointed out the immense scale of the Steam marketplace, where thousands of titles compete for attention every year, making substantial financial success a rarity for ports of non-native software.

"If you look at the sheer size of the Steam library, only a smallest fraction of all games ever cross $50 million in lifetime revenue," said Burangulov, emphasizing the competitive nature of the desktop gaming marketplace. "So for us—a mobile-first title—to achieve that by bringing a mobile experience, adapting it for a PC audience, and conveying what’s cool about War Robots and its ever-growing universe is a massive milestone."

Burangulov further highlighted that the Steam release laid the crucial groundwork for the franchise’s broader multi-platform ambitions. "War Robots is now a truly multi-platform game, and the Steam version was the first crucial step on this journey," he added, crediting the perseverance of the development team and the loyalty of the player community for sustaining the game’s momentum over more than a decade.

The Broader Financial Landscape of the Franchise

The latest financial update on Steam arrives on the heels of broader revenue disclosures regarding the entire War Robots franchise. Last year, My.Games revealed that War Robots had officially surpassed $1 billion in lifetime gross revenue across all platforms combined. That milestone cemented the franchise’s status as a heavyweight in the free-to-play tactical shooter genre.

At the time of that billion-dollar milestone announcement, mobile platforms accounted for the vast majority of the earnings, representing roughly 94% of the game’s total historical revenue. While mobile devices have historically driven the lion’s share of the financial success due to the game’s origins and the massive global reach of smartphones, the newly reported $50 million milestone on Steam illustrates that secondary platforms like PC continue to play an increasingly important role in diversifying the revenue streams and extending the lifecycle of major live-service games.

As My.Games continues to support and update War Robots with new content, balancing updates, and technical enhancements across its unified multi-platform ecosystem, the title demonstrates how mobile-origin franchises can successfully bridge the gap to desktop and console audiences while sustaining player interest well over a decade after their initial debut.
